Implementation of plans depends in great measure on the social process that creates them and sees them through. Planning is both a facilitated and ongoing dialogue and a conflict management process. Few plans ever get implemented if they ignore the conflicts within their constituencies and if they do not create a social process that promotes trust, co-creation, and shared vision. This is why, in part, one of PUP’s founding members is the Consensus Building Institute based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Currently this focus area is at work in creating an Integral Site Assessment protocol as well as interpretive planning in Fire Island National Seashore. More information on this area is on the way.
